Welcome to Ingwe Alpacas

Ingwe Alpacas came about through the collaboration between two alpaca farms in the picturesque Yarra Valley, Victoria Australia. Omaru Alpacas and Riatta Alpacas and their owners have a shared passion for the unique patterns produced from highly sought after genetics found within the Australian alpaca gene pool.  Our patterns comprise of classic, leopard, harlequin leopard, harlequin and pintaloosa phenotypes. 

Our ancestral pool is derived from Royal Canadian Safari with Neo Summerhill Leopard Prince genetics as the driver of our Leopard and Harlequin Leopard program.  EP Cambridge The Leopard and World Class Silk Rose for our Classic and Harlequin lines and Blackgate Lodge Picasso genetics are the base for our Pintaloosa alpaca.

The spotted alpaca stand out from the solid white and coloured alpaca in our herd due to their exquisite patterning and spots making them favourites with our buyers who can quickly identify which alpaca they are looking at in their paddock. 

Their fibre is sought after by hand spinners, weavers and crafters due to the patterning which when hand processed produces a unique product. No two patterns are identical.  Our aim has been to generationally improve the fleece qualities within our herd through careful planning of our breeding pairs.  To do this we very often use solid colour/white alpacas to achieve the improvement we strive for which at times results in solid offspring not the spots we so desire.  Producing spots and patterns can be challenging to say the least and for this we have also relied on extensively testing our herd for their colour code genetics.
